EMBRYONEMESIS

EMBRYONEMESIS

It was a molecular and chemical event
Where for the first time the egg and sperm met
They developed a bond very strong
Then a fresh new embryo was made
Over time and blastulations
It turned into a fetus of cells
The tissues and organs gradually formed
With the chromosomes determining its genetic fate
In this story there was no chromosome "Y"
It was a double X fetus, a female child
The story could have continued with chapters more
But some morons stopped it at this juncture here
They dont care! The illiterate ones
They can't hear a little heart beat in there
How else could these ruthless psychopaths..
Forget that they were born of a female mother's care?

Nocturnal Psyche

NOCTURNAL PSYCHE
Copyright © SHRAVANI MUKHERJEE

After a long day of an usual life
The night lullabies you to sleep
And although you rest your flesh and blood
The mind may not be at peace
Physically you lay still and free
But mentally occupied in thoughts
Reflect on the day gone by
Smiling at gains or reminiscing the loss
Then walks in through the doors
Reasons, songs or some poetic rhymes
You keep them to yourself in your mind
The nocturnal creative psyche
Heaps of stuff thus gets stored in there
Some other nights you may again rewind
But when does the sleep overtake?
And when chronicles of dream unwind?
The mystery is yet unsolved to me
As it is…. Dawn already? My wake up time!

ONCE AT SIXTEEN

ONCE AT SIXTEEN
Copyright © SHRAVANI MUKHERJEE
It was a winter day all cold
I was a teen on my sixteen threshold
Saw you for the first time in a new light
While my friends were cheering our team in a fight
In that geeky battle of wit, facts and whiz
Found myself quizzing my new feelings
The weird feeling of loss although the game we won
Was there as I lost my heart, I gave it to you
The battlefields changed but the game was same
We met few more times again and again
Never got a chance to say a good hello
And it was already a goodbye to that life for a new
A brand new college life was to start
So friends said: “Forget your crush sweetheart! “
School life was over, I had to move on
Away from fantasy and my only dream song!

By some divine mesh, in my second decade
We caught up with each other yet again
This time we strummed the friendship note
But already since sixteen been sailing a loveboat
It was therefore hard to pretend all along
Then I knew it wasn’t a mere crush, not at all!
Gradually, got to know bits and bytes about you
Your humor, talent, your girl and how happy in love are both of you
That was it . . . ! the world had crashed,
It was high time I pulled the plug and went for acoustic bass

Too long I had been blindly swimming in this pool
How could I not see? I’d been such a fool!
My foggy selfishness obscured my sight
Forgot my love was unrequited from one side
Now I know things got to end
Feelings have to be murdered and dreams to be dead
Never ever want you to fall for me . . .
Just because I had feelings for thee
Time and again our paths may cross
But never I’ll confess my pain and remorse
My blank expressions and neutral smile, will give no clue
That once at sixteen I fell in love with you!

BROKEN WINGS

BROKEN WINGS
Copyright © SHRAVANI MUKHERJEE

However hard I try
Just cannot understand why
Honest! This is no lie
But I’m just not able to fly
Been always the simple and regular type
The burden of expectations heaped on me
By you and people from time to time
Maybe….thats the reason why
I’m just not able to fly

One day!! I’ll grow my wings, yeah mine!!
And not be just a rebel who voices but sighs
That day I’ll reach my goal in the heights
But till then, I just can’t fly….!

WILL TO LIVE AGAINST DEATH

WILL TO LIVE AGAINST DEATH

Am I the human I used to be?
Why am I still here?
I keep writhing in this pain
Yet, why am I breathing the air?
I am crying here all broken and hurt
Yet I am not dead (….just like I feared!)
Always knew I had a will power too strong
That would shield my life so dear
My strength and will to live over-powering my body’s wish
Voices are loud, but it is my desperation
That so clearly I can right now hear
And I wonder why I still wish to live!?
That’s when my open eyes shed the one last tear
